About the WebinarOur concepts of home – what home means and what we need to feel at home – while spanning a wide spectrum, have a profound influence on how we approach transitions and the strategies that work best for speeding up adjustment and finding home. In other words, how we perceive home shapes – or should shape – how we go about creating home when we move. In this webinar, I present a framework for categorizing concepts of “home” and explore the connection between those concepts and the coping strategies we use when making cross-cultural moves. Drawing on my research, including over 30 in-depth interviews with both first-time and experience expats, I show how using our concept of home as a guide can help us make smoother transitions and find home wherever we are..
About the FacilitatorKatia Vlachos is a researcher, writer and transition coach. She writes on cross-cultural adaptation and expatriate life. Greek by birth and perpetual foreigner by choice, she has lived in 8 cities and 7 countries in the last 20 years. In her blog posts, articles and in a forthcoming book, she explores the challenges of finding and sustaining home amidst the chaos of nomadic life. She also coaches expatriates to help them navigate transitions, whether geographical, professional or personal. Katia is a defense analyst by training, and lives in Zurich, Switzerland with her family. Unfittingly for her location – but in complete harmony with her Mediterranean upbringing – she enjoys water skiing much more than snow skiing. She’s still working on her Swiss-German.
